I’m very excited to finally announce the release of Dead Still Dream, a book of poetry by Kifah Abdulla, and translated to English by me. The book itself is dual language, with Arabic and English on facing pages.
Daniel did the book design, which as you can imagine posed unusual challenges: he couldn’t read or really even make changes to half of the text :) (But he’s pretty much a design genius, so always up for a challenge.)
The book is a narrative arc in poetry, describing Kifah’s life as a young man in Baghdad in the 1980s, as a soldier in compulsory service during the Iraq-Iran war, and his experiences as a prisoner of war in Iran, where he lived in captivity for over eight years. The book focuses on themes of hope, love, and peace in the face of conflict and tragedy.
We’ll be announcing a book launch/signing/party soon (and you can buy the book in-person too, just send an email to Kifah.)
